BEFORE & AFTER CARE FOR SPRAY TAN
On average, your spray tan will last 5-7 days. Following a good skin care regimen before and after spray tanning will help a spray tan last longer.
Before Session
-
Exfoliate skin at least 12 hours prior to spray tanning to smooth skin for even tanning results. Spend a little extra time on knees, elbow, feet and hands.
-
Use a body scrub, not a bar soap. It is best to use a sulfate-free cleanser.
-
Shave at least 1 day prior to visit and never night before.
-
Waxing can be done 24 hours before your spray tan. If after, then wait as long as you can. We recommend waiting 3 days.
-
Avoid moisturizers, perfumes, lotions, make-up, and deodorants that provide barrier for absorption.
-
Manicure/Pedicure should be done before your spray tanning appointment.
-
Arrive wearing dark loose-fit clothing with open shoes. Avoid wearing socks or shoes after your tanning session in order to allow the tan to develop properly on your feet.
-
Do not wear underwire bras, wool, nylon, tighter-fitting jeans, spandex, tight blouses or silk during or after your spray tan application and for at least 8 hours as DHA may react with these fabrics and cause staining.
During Session
-
Remove all make-up, moisturizer, perfume, deodorant, jewelry, and clothing
-
Wear undergarments to protect sensitive areas. What you wear is entirely up to you. Please remember that wherever you are covered, you will have tan lines. For women, we suggest wearing minimal bottoms (not required) and no top. If you’d like to wear a top, we suggest wearing something strapless or something you can easily move straps to prevent tan lines. Men should wear boxers, briefs, or swim trunks. Tanning solution will wash out of MOST materials. Solution washes out of most clothing very easily but tends to stain nylon and Lycra materials; therefore, dark colored underwear is recommended.
-
Apply barrier cream to palms, in between fingers, all over cuticles, fingernails and underneath fingernails, sides of the feet, back of the heels, toe nails, cuticles, underneath toenails and in between toes, elbows and knees (if dry skin)
-
Apply hair net and sticky feet
-
Follow audio step-by-step instructions
After Session
-
Wash hands when needed. Wash only the insides of your hands (palms) while the spray tan is developing. The most effective way to do this is with hand sanitizer or an antibacterial wipe. If you do not have these available, you can also use a paper towel or towel with soap.
-
First shower. Wait at least 8-12 hours before showering. This time frame is optimal and you should not wait longer than this, as the color can overdevelop. The first shower should be done using a quick rinse with lukewarm water and no soap. Do not exfoliate, use loofah or washcloths.
-
Drying. After your shower, gently pat dry or air dry. Avoid rubbing the skin with a towel.
-
Avoid exercising or any activity that may cause sweating prior to your first shower.
-
Avoid getting your skin wet, even from rain, washing dishes or giving kids a bath.
-
Perfumes may be applied to either clothing or hair. Do not spray directly on your skin.
-
No lotion, body spray, make up or deodorant for the remainder of the day.
-
Avoid shaving for 12 hours after your treatment as it exfoliates the skin. Don't used foam based shaving products or after care moisturizers that are alcohol based, these break down your tan.
-
Your tan will continue to develop for 24 hours.
Note: The cosmetic bronzer color that is immediately visible during the session will wash off during the first shower, revealing the DHA bronze tan beneath. Do not panic, your tan is not washing down the drain.
Continued Maintenance for Spray Tanning
-
Second shower should be taken on the following day using a sulfate-free product. Avoid long hot showers and baths, and exfoliating with loofahs or washcloths.
-
Moisturizing is a vital step in extending the life of your spray tan. Do not use lotions containing mineral oil or fragrances.
-
Drink lots of water. The more hydrated you are, the longer your tan will last.
