Collagen

Collagen is a protein that forms around 70% of the proteins in the body. The amount and quality of collagen in our skin contributes to our appearance. Each body is unique and has a specific collagen composition depending on age and health.

The productivity of our skin’s collagen proteins declines with age, and by the age of around 20 we lose 1-2% per year. As collagen declines, our skin thins and weakens, resulting in the appearance of wrinkles.

The thinning skin starts to lose its protective functions, which will leave it increasingly vulnerable to visible color and texture irregularity or bacterial infection.

Collagen is also important in joints and contributes to flexibility and suppleness. Without Collagen joints become stiff and painful. Athletes often use supplements containing Collagen for this reason.

How does Collagen work?

The concentrated light energy in the visible red light spectrum results in the skin’s small blood vessels being stimulated, improving oxygenation and detoxification. Hydration is increased and the ability of the skin to retain moisture improves. Increased cell activity, improved natural repair and the creation of healthy skin conditions leads to cell regeneration. It can reverse the signs of ageing by stimulating the dermis to produce new Collagen and Elastin, the essential ingredients for smooth firm skin.

This in turn activates blood circulation, which helps skin and tissue elasticity and also reduces the chances of chronic degenerative diseases.

The stimulation of the skin with Collagen Therapy also has anti-inflammatory properties. It brings more oxygen and nutrients into the affected area, which further reduces inflammation while enhancing skin wound repair processes, particularly effective for acne and other skin condition sufferers.

How long will it take to see results?

Results vary depending on your skin type, and depending on your age, however, the following is a guideline for the frequency of exposure and corresponding expected results:

BEFORE, DURING AND AFTER YOUR COLLAGEN SESSION

Before

  • Skin should be thoroughly washed and cleansed to remove surface oils and irritants. In this way, the light will not be blocked by any particles which can reflect the red light.

During

  • Remove make-up and cosmetics. Unknown cosmetics might contain ingredients which could trigger light sensitive reactions. Normal sun cosmetics should not be used.

  • To enhance the results, we advise using the iRenew Face and Body Skin Cell Rejuvenator lotion. The clear transparent formula allows all the collagen stimulating rays to penetrate and renew your skin.

After

  • To maintain the results, we advise using the iRenew Face and Body Skin Cell Maintainer lotion. It helps to maintain the skin’s collagen and elastin for firmer, youthful looking skin.

  • The use of normal day cream/body lotion after a red light treatment is not necessary, but will not have any negative effect on the results.
